Pchum Ben on Preta’s Island follows a devoted Buddhist monk returning to his abandoned hometown to care for his ailing abbot, the last remaining resident on a desolate island haunted by legend. Once a thriving community, the island is now overrun by tortured souls—Preta, cursed spirits doomed to eternal hunger. These tormented beings have grown restless, and angry at their living descendants who have forgotten to honor them during Pchum Ben, the festival of ancestors. As the monk rekindles his faith amidst the eerie silence, he uncovers a horrifying truth: the Preta are plotting vengeance, threatening to devour their descendants as punishment for neglecting to send them merit. To protect the innocent ones, he strikes a desperate deal with the Preta—one that binds him to their wrath and reveals a harrowing secret from his past that will test the limits of his sacrifice.
